The aim of launching this program is to enhance Rijeka's cultural life with guest appearances by Croatian and international artists who will develop their projects during their stay and engage in public events across Rijeka's cultural scene (lectures in schools and universities, interactions with local creators, participation in roundtables discussions, organization of literary evenings, artwork presentations, etc.).
Through this program, artists will be given the opportunity to reflect on current topics, examine the identity of the city and promote culture and art as an important part of social and public life. Moreover, artist residencies offer authors a distinctive framework to delve into their artistic practice, providing them with the necessary time, support, and resources to conceive and cultivate artistic ideas and projects. In contrast to other, shorter formats of artist presentations such as performances, exhibitions, or literary events, the extended duration of artist residencies enables the establishment of a different level of trust between artists, cultural workers and other participants, fostering deeper connections among collaborators, and resulting in clearer project concepts and more long-term collaborations.
