  Wojciech Sobczyk was born in 1985. in Jaworzno, Poland. In 2010. he won Erasmus scholarship at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He made his diploma thesis at the prof. Stanisław Wejman studio of a copperplate engraving, awarded with The Medal of Rector. In 2012. he was awarded with The Scholarship For Artists of the Krakow city. He is involved in printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture  and installation. He is currently a student of second year of doctoral studies (PhD) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.

• Password Printmaking

  Password Printmaking is a union of six European non-profit institutions from Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Poland, Slovenia and Spain.
  
  This joint project promotes contemporary art, artists, cultural workers and raises public awareness of the field of the graphic arts and reproducible art practices related to printmaking. It establishes a structure for the creative integration of the organizers of graphic manifestations of tradition, residency programmes as well as exchanges within Europe, forging links between artists, theoreticians, art institutions and art education establishments across Europe.
  
  All partner institutions have a strong focus on the research, promotion, collection and/or production of modern and contemporary fine art print making and art publications. With this project, we wish to further promote the visibility of graphic and multiple arts in Europe.
  
  Wojciech Sobczyk - the workshop at the Academy of Applied arts in Rijeka

  Synopsis of the graphics workshop with the participation of students from intaglio studio (by the artists):

  Printmaking, unfortunately, is often understood as  hermetic, old-fashioned art, which doesn’t  give opportunity to build an image outside of the matrix. During the workshop I would like to show  to the students the far-reaching opportunities offered by the different form of an intaglio printing. The main goal of the workshop is to stimulate the imagination of young artists by performing graphic prints on materials of various structure.

  We get used to to the fact that graphics should be printed on the paper.  During the workshop, students will learn how to print on wood, fabric, cardboard and plaster. These materials, provoke solutions more sculptural, and open up new ways of graphic understanding.

  Plan of the  workshop consists of : the brief lecture about intaglio techniques in relation to the material which would be used to print on; preparation of matrix (metal plates);  consultations with students about their sketches; work on the matrix; demonstration of different printing techniques and  work with students and the preparation of the final exhibition.

  Wojciech Sobczyk - artist statement

  Few subjects draw out from my portfolio with which I'd like to work almost parallelly. One of them is working with public space. So in this case we are facing a potential residence to a new enviroment, then i feel most excited about experiencing space in Rijeka: starting to recognize repetetive elements, mapping citys hotspots. So I would trust my space and social senses for getting the impulses which i could exploit to materialize prints preferably made in linocut and which have an exhibition value in the street, and,perhaps, also independently .

  Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka (HR) - MMSU

   

  MMSU in Rijeka founded in 1948, in its long tradition offers a committed support to innovative ways of approaching, producing and presenting art. From its very beginning the Museum has been building reputation of one of the most prominent visual art institutions in Croatia, entrusted with presentation of Croatian artists at prestigious international art events such as: Venice Biennial 1962, 1997, 2007, 2010, Sao Paolo Biennial 1967, 2004 etc. 

  The Museum rounds its programming around visual art education, parallel to different modes of exhibition concepts that address new discursive possibilities and transform it into a place of inspiration, idea exchange and active participation. Under the motto openness, creativity & engagement, together with artistic, cultural and community organizations, Museum furthers visual arts research, collaboration and exchange within the region and internationally, while aspiring to reach increasingly diverse audiences and to work in a close relationship with the community.

  Museum’s collection offers a diverse range of artistic visions with over 8,000 artworks dated from the end of the 19^th century to the present day. From 2017 Museum is located at new address, Krešimirova 26c, in ex-industrial complex Rikard Benčić. Since then, some important exhibitions were organized at MMSU in the framework of the pre-program and program of Rijeka 2020 - European Capital of Culture, i.e. Tomislav Gotovac: Crisis Anticipator - Don't Ask Where We're Going (2017), Vlado Martek: Exhibition with Many Titles and Goran Petercol: Don't Worry About Poetics, They Will Arrive on Their Own in 2019 and David Maljković: With the Collection in 2020..
