KPK Beton
(Kultural promotional set Concrete)
is a printed newsletter of Association of citizens, artists and workers of KPK Beton (KPK – the official meaning of the
abbreviation is Cultural promotional
community, but it is rather fluid – sometimes its meaning is Cultural educational community). Since
2006. it has been published as monthly supplement of the daily newspaper Danas from Belgrade. Its purpose is the deconstruction
of nationalistic cultural model and the promotion of: negative art and literary
criticism, alternative comics, political satire and investigative journalism.
Since 2007. KPK Beton runs its own web site www.elektrobeton.net
where the archive of all of their texts is available. Beton has published two books with the selection of published texts,
comics and illustrations: Srbija kao
sprava/Serbia as a machine (Dangraf, 2007) and Antimemorandum-dum (VBZ, 2009). Tomislav Marković, one of the
editors has published a book entitled
Vreme smrti i razonode/Time of Death and Leisure (VBZ, 2010) compiled from satirical
texts from synonimous column in the magazine.
KPK Beton
advocates the preservation of memory of
heritage of antifascism from the Second Word War and the systemic
condemnation of neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic and xenophobic pamphlets, occurrences
and movements in Serbian society. That is the source of the series of texts
and, especially, 50. issue of Beton (July 2008.) dedicated to
promotion of antifascist values in Serbian society.
KPK Beton
promotes literature of minority cultural communities in Serbia,
encourages translations from minority languages to Serbian. In line with that,
several issues of Beton have been
dedicated to minority themes: bilingual Hungarian-Serbian (issue 46., May
2008.) dedicated to contemporary Hungarian literature in Vojvodina, issue
dedicated to Albanian contemporary literature in Kosovo (issue 108 from
February 2011.) and issue dedicated to contemporary alternative scene in
Macedonia (issue 114 from June 2011.).
In cooperation with the editorial board of
magazine MM from Priština, and under the patronage of European book network Traduki, editorial board of KPK Beton has compiled two anthologies: Iz Prištine, s ljubavlju/From Prishtina with
love, anthology of contemporary literary scene in Kosovo (poetry, prose and

concerning contemporary literature, culture and society in Serbia and the
region of Western Balkans.
KPK Beton has also
developed successful strategic cooperation with various independent
organizations and media in the zone of former Yugoslavia. Beton has been published as a supplement in the magazine Feral Tribune (Split,
Croatia), and today it is published as a
supplement in a literary magazine Zarez (Zagreb, Croatia).
For the last two years it has been
implementing, in cooperation with bookshop Booksa
from Zagreb, a project of exchange of critics in
which critics from Serbia
write about book from contemporary literary scene in Croatia,
and critics from Croatia

published every Monday on the Booksa portal www.booksa.hr. They closely cooperate with magazine Plima plus and the publishing house Plima from Ulcinj as well as with
