  Sonja Jankov (1985) is independent historian and theoretician of contemporary art and cultural aspects of modern and contemporary architecture. She holds MA from Faculty of Political Sciences, Department for Cultural Theory and had spent a year at Faculty of Philosophy and Art at Karlova Universita in Prague. She used to work at Museum of Contemporary Art in Novi Sad (2012-2015), as gallery director at Institute for Culture of Vojvodina (winter 2014) and as volunteering contributor to B92, section for culture, art and lifestyle. Since 2014, she is member of ULUPUDS, section for history of architecture. Her publications include over 50 critiques and reviews (journals: Nova misao, Polja, Interkulturalnost, DaNS), catalogues (artists:  Igor Antić, MP_art, Goran Despotovski, project Differences, Nina Komel, DiStruktura, Korina Gubik, Mladen Vračarić, Srđan Đurić, Dragan Vojvodić, Vuk Vučković, etc) and essays. She was scholarship holder of the Republic Foundation for development of Scientific and Artistic Youth.

• Art Interventions in Public and Common Urban Spaces

  Art Interventions in Public and Common Urban Spaces is research that focuses on historic overview of this type of art practice in ex-Yugoslav region since the end of 1960s and the shift from artistic interventions to actions, protests and fights for public and common spaces in contemporary society. Within the context of gentrification, preservation and activation of cultural heritage, invasive projects such as Belgrade Waterfront, privatization of coasts and transformation of green urban areas into parking lots, art became part of occupation / liberation processes. During the residency, Sonja Jankov will contact researchers, historians, architects, art collectives and associations that have been / are organizing programs related to the topic and present art interventions and actions in Serbia. Her research will be presented on the exhibition GIF and Public Urban Space in Mali salon, July 7-14, 2015 and on the lecture entitled Art interventions in public spaces of Vojvodina, on Tuesday, July 14 at 7 pm in Mali Salon.

  ULUPUDS (The Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia) is unique social, non-governmental and volunteering professional association that enables practice of independent artists in Serbia. ULUPUDS gathers the most eminent artists (around 1200 members, among which 500 are independent) into nine sections: Architecture, Textile and Contemporary Costume, Contemporary Scenography, Design (graphic, industrial and visual communications), Artistic Photography, Sculpture, Painting and Graphics (applied painting, applied print illustration, caricature, comics, conservation and restoration), Ceramics and section for History, Critique and Theory of Art.
