International Writers Exchange
15.10.-15.11.2011.
Croatian
writers society from Zagreb is organising a one-month residency of writer Peter-Clement
Woetmann from Copenhagen, Denmark in the Kamov Residency in Rijeka.
Peter-Clement Woetmann was invited to stay in Rijeka by
the Croatian writers society, as a part of their regular programme of
international cooperation – International Writers Exchange .So far,
the cooperation was primarily with European countries, and sporadically with
Asian countries such as China, India and Japan. Programmes were mainly in form
of short journeys of a number of authors with the main goal of reaching foreign
audience. Nevertheless, quite a number of those trips resulted in
successfull partnerships with foreign publishers, mainly concerning the
translations of Croatian writers in foreign languages. In return, Croatian
writers society, had hosted numerous foreign writers whose texts have
been translated to Croatian and mostly published in magazines Poezija/Poetry,
Književna republika/Literary Republic and Europski glasnik/European Messenger.
This is their first cooperation with Danish Authors' Society - Dansk Forfatterforening with whom they plan to establish
long-lasting and valuable partnership. In addition, this is the first time that
they have, as a model of writers exchange programme, chosen a one-month
residency stay of a single author in a Residence apartment. They used this
particular form of exchange because they consider it to be potentially more
fruitful concerning the cultural and language dynamics. Peter-Clement Woetmann
will be introduced to the cultural life of Rijeka – moreover, he will become
its active participant by presenting his works – book, texts that he created
during his visit and contemporary Danish literature. Clearly, since it is a
writers exchange programme, the
Danish Authors' Society - Dansk Forfatterforening will
next year host a one-month long residency of Nikola Petković, author, poet,
critic and university professor from Rijeka in Copenhagen.
During his visit to Rijeka, Woetmann will work on his latest novel Historien om Ulrich/The Story of Ulrich and a collection of poems, core of which is
currently being shaped – the suiteabout
The Sun, a woman nad someone who is present no more. In addition to his
creative pursuits, he will take part in four public events – in the Ribook
bookstore, on The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and in the NGO
Centre Molekula/Molecule, where his will present his published works and read
excerpts from his latest manuscripts. This form of public events will be a sort
of presentation in sequels. Besides
these events that are aimed towards a more diverse audience, he will give two
lectures on The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences:
- Contemporary Danish
Poetry
- Introduction to
literary oeuvre of Danish author Inger Christensen
