Borders (working title)
01.-31.08.2024.
The project involves the writing of a drama about a couple where he is Italian and she is Ukrainian. It all takes place in the intimacy of a home. At first glance it might seem like a sentimental comedy, but instead it wants to tell through intimacy the divergences of different cultures and visions of reality that are confronted with a war that seems distant to us but which in reality we have at home.
The experience gained in recent years by director Matteo Spiazzi who has worked for many years in Ukraine, and also curated the Stage4ukraine humanitarian project, allows him to have a privileged look at the before the Russian attack of 2022 and after, on what happened, and about the consequences of Ukrainian emigration that occurred due to the conflict throughout Europe.
The different reactions and post-traumatic stress tell us about a world that is changing before our eyes, about a war on the borders of the European Union which despite everything continues, about the indifference of us Europeans to maintain our lifestyle, and of the impossibility of returning to normality for those who have left their dreams, expectations and life plans elsewhere and in another time.
The drafting of the theatrical text is intended to be the first step in the realization of this project, which will then be presented for other artistic residencies and with Italian and foreign producers.
The project will be created by the director Matteo Spiazzi with the actor Massimo Scola and in a subsequent phase with the collaboration of the Ukrainian actress Yeva Sai.
