EERE - Eastern European Residency Exchange
22.07.-16.08.2011.
Through an artist residency program, Art in
General’s Eastern European Residency Exchange (EERE) gives artists an opportunity to create a new work in a
new context, and to meet and interact with art communities in Eastern Europe
and New York City. Initiated in 2001, the EERE consists
of a unique artist residency program at Art in General offered to Eastern
European artists nominated by Art in General’s partnering institutions: Center for Contemporary Art Ujadowzski Castle in
Warsaw, Poland and the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU) in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2010, a new partner
site will join the EERE. As part of the EERE, these museums and galleries also host New York-based
artists for a two-month residency in their institutions. The selection process
for the EERE program is based solely on nominations.
This nomination process involves artists, curators, and arts professionals
invited by Art in General, along with curators and staff of each EERE partner.

Art in General
is a nonprofit organization that assists artists with the production and
presentation of new work. It changes in response to the needs of artists and
informs and engages the public about their work. Art in General was founded in
1981 by artists Martin Weinstein and Teresa Liszka in the General Hardware
building—hence the name “Art in General”. Weinstein and Liszka aimed to create
a space where artists could exhibit unconventional work and exchange ideas with
their peers. The first exhibition took place in 1982. In its 28 years, the
organization has emerged as one of New York City’s leading nonprofit arts
organizations.
