Lýdia Pribišová, PhD.

born in 1980, in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, is a curator and art historian, lives in Bratislava and Roma. Since 2006 she is Slovak editor, since 2013 managing editor of Flash Art Czech & Slovak Edition and since 2013 she is project coordinator in tranzit.sk (www.tranzit.org). In 2012, she founded non-profit organization called Pilot (www.pilot-projects.info).

Since 2013 she collaborate with Kunsthalle Bratislava, curating discussion series called Lupa, dedicated to international emerging curators. She is member of Slovak AICA, member of Viafarini curatorial board in Milano and member of curatorial board White House Biennial in Athens. In 2007 and 2011 she co-curated Slovak section of Prague Biennale, organised by Helena Kontova and Giancarlo Politi. In 2007 she co-founded gallery of immaterial art http://www.evolutiondelart.net/. She is contributor in magazines Flash Art, Artribune, Luxflux and Vlna.

In 2013 she obtained PhD degree at the University La Sapienza in Rome, with doctoral thesis under the tutorship of Professor Simonetta Lux La Quadriennale di Roma Dall’Ente autonomo alla Fondazione. Una riflessione sulla trasformazione. Quadriennale of Rome. From Public Body to Foundation. Reflection on transformation. In 2010 she was awarded by the Lemmermann Foundation for this research.

She collaborated with institutions and galleries in various countries:

During her stay in Rijeka, at Kamov residency, Lydia Pribisova’s wishes to establish new connections with institutions and individuals with international initiative tranzit.sk, where she is working, www.tranzit.org and cultural association Pilot, which she founded, http://www.pilot-projects.info/.  Her aim is to find new partners to collaborate as it is their main aim to act internationally, in dialectics between local and global cultural narratives. Lydia Pribisova’s research will be focused on mapping the non-profit institutions in progressive cultures in region, and work together with them on such themes as public art practices, relation between art and science in order to develop transversal links between art and different areas of thinking.

In Rijeka at Kamov Residency, Lydia Pribisova’s would like to find artists and the other new collaborators who would like to create, generate and propose ideas that do not yet have articulations elsewhere in the society and I would like to discuss with professionals Tranzit approach towards organizing exhibitions, discussions and other types of cultural events. Lydia Pribisova would like to get to know their way of work and to invite them to Bratislava to talk about their job. To learn about of the most progressive ways of exhibition-making and its combining with accompanying program.

Her plan is also to introduce in Kamov residency the Slovak art scene, through a video evening, during which she would present the work of around 15 Slovak artists. Since 2006, she has been working as editor of the Flash Art Czech and Slovak Edition magazine, and would be glad to prepare an article for their magazine about Croatian arts scene, with the focus on Rijeka.

SIZ Gallery was founded in 2009, at the initiative of artists and curator Nemanja Cvijanovic. By 2010. the Gallery acts as one of the most important programs of the NGO The Other Sea. Active  participants of the gallery are, artists and designers,: ABS group, Art Fun Club, Milijana Babic, Tomislav Brajnović, Nemanja Cvijanovic, Focus Group aka Iva Kovac and Elvis Krstulović, Igor Grubic, Janez Jansa, Sinisa Labrovic, Cesare Pietroiusti, Oliver Ressler, SCRAP, Slaven Tolj and associations NGO The Other Sea. SIZ Gallery is designed as an artist run gallery in which all  artists  are actually shareholders of the Gallery, and jointly decide on the program, promotion, guest appearances, etc.

In 2011. members  of the Gallery  established the NGO SIZ, thorugh which annual programme the Gallery continues to exist. In 2013. SIZ  (NGO and the Gallery) starts a collaboration with Museum of modern and contemporary art in Rijeka -  its annual program will be presented in the Mali salon gallery in Rijeka's main street Korzo. SIZ is defined by artistically never more relevant model of functioning of the collective association of equal individuals whose puropse is joint appearances in the art system. SIZ Gallery through a specific approach to artistic system emerged as one of the most interesting programs in Rijeka and beyond. Small, independent, rapidly rotating exhibitions thar connect Croatian contemporary art scene with artists from both the immediate region and other countries. Programme of the Gallery,  through the presentation of some of the most interesting tendencies in contemporary art, which in a  determined way, reflect social reality and its various, specific, dimensions such as politics, culture, ideology, cultural policy, etc., is aimed at informing the public and creating a critical counterbalance to the programs of large institutions.

With the founding of the Gallery and later by founding of the Association SIZ they try to act positively in the exhibition scene in Rijeka, where the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art had created  a positive impact on the cultural life of the city, primarily educating audiences for contemporary visual language. Unexpectedly large and encouraging interest in international and regional art scene for SIZ Gallery which annually receives dozens of offers for collaboration, and in a way has become an important center of contemporary visual arts and cultural scene in general.

Vlado Martek, Marijan Crtalić, collective GREY, art group Claire Fontaine, Sasha Huber, Milijana Babic, and Marko Markovic; 2012 and 2013.: Alexi Kukuljevića, Ivan Moudov, Stefan Pasquini, Ciprian Muresan, Ibro Hasanovic, Kristina Norman, Giuliana Racc0, Hudradea Collective and Fokus group.

Summary: NGO  SIZ (SIZ - Self-management community of interests) is running the SIZ gallery. The Gallery started as a programme organized by the NGO Drugo more (The Other Sea) in 2009. During its 3-year long existence the Gallery created a certain recognisable profile of visual content in regional and local cultural community.

It gradually became a significant point of contemporary artistic production and pratice. The content it presents is focused on works of Croatian and foreign artists that reflect various dimensions of social reality and its numerous fine nuances in specific ways.
