Catalonian author Joan Todo Cortiella will be to staying in Rijeka in the organization
of Croatian Writers' Association - more
precisely within their two year long programme of international cultural cooperation

2012./2013. Th programme is reciprocal, so Catalonia will also host one
Croatian author in the second part of the entire project. The Association has developed
fruitful cooperation with many countries
– such as: Germany, Unted Kingdom, France, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Romania,
Bulgaria, Russiam China, India, Japan, USA, etc. – mainly through exchange
programmes and individual international cooperation. In 2011. they cooperated
with Danish Authors' Society - Dansk Forfatterforening for the first time, and the project was also a
successful collaboration with the Kamov Residency – that hosted young Danish
author Peter Clement Woetmann. This
year's project includes extensive two-part programme – Joan Todó Cortiella's stay
in Rijeka in September and a visit of four Catalonian authors in Zagreb and in
Zadar in November. During his stay in Rijeka, Joan Todó Cortiella will work on his novel
entitled Lo melic del món - Center/Navel of the world whose main
motif in the return to childhood home in a small Catalonian town of La Senia. He
will read excerpts from the forthcoming novel In Rijeka and in Zagreb, and
present contemporary Catalonian literature, writing and literary life within
the so-called minor languages – experience shared by his Croatian colleagues.
These literary evenings will open the topics of relationship between
autobiographical and fictional, between memory as a method of safeguaRding the
truth – as a unavoidable distortion of the so-called facts, etc.
