Joan Todó Cortiella was born in  1977. in La Sénia (Catalan and País Valencia border). He studied Literary theory and Comparative literature on the University of Barcelona. Since the beginning of his studies he had lived in Barcelona. He returned to his hometown in 2011, after fifteen years of living in Barcelona. In 2007. he published book of poems entitled  Los fòssils (al ras)  - Fossils [out in the open], and in 2012. a collection El fàstic que us cega (The revulsion that blinds you). In  2011. he published a prose work, A butxacades (By handfuls). He collaborates with magazine such as Paper de Vidre, Caràcters or L'Avenç.

Catalonia in Croatia

Esteemed Catalonian author Joan Todo Cortiella will be to staying in Rijeka in the organization of Croatian Writers' Association  - more precisely within their two year long programme of international cultural cooperation Exchange of authors Catalonia-Croatia 2012./2013. Th programme is reciprocal, so Catalonia will also host one Croatian author in the second part of the entire project. The Association has developed fruitful cooperation  with many countries – such as: Germany, Unted Kingdom, France, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Russiam China, India, Japan, USA, etc. – mainly through exchange programmes and individual international cooperation. In 2011. they cooperated with Danish Authors' Society - Dansk Forfatterforening for the first time, and the project was also a successful collaboration with the Kamov Residency – that hosted young Danish author Peter Clement Woetmann.  This year's project includes extensive two-part programme – Joan Todó Cortiella's stay in Rijeka in September and a visit of four Catalonian authors in Zagreb and in Zadar in November. During his stay in Rijeka,  Joan Todó Cortiella will work on his novel entitled Lo melic del món - Center/Navel of the world whose main motif in the return to childhood home in a small Catalonian town of La Senia. He will read excerpts from the forthcoming novel In Rijeka and in Zagreb, and present contemporary Catalonian literature, writing and literary life within the so-called minor languages – experience shared by his Croatian colleagues. These literary evenings will open the topics of relationship between autobiographical and fictional, between memory as a method of safeguaRding the truth – as a unavoidable distortion of the so-called facts, etc.

Croatian Writers' Society is a non-governmental, non-political professional association of writers who are active within the Republic of Croatia meaning those who write in the Croatian language as well as those professional authors of literal and other texts who are in agreement with the aims and activities of the Society. The Society assembles writers of literary and other related texts, and for the protection of their professional rights and interests, for the promotion of standards of literary creativity and the general standard of the written and public word as well as the professional and public status of writers of literary and other related texts. In order to fulfil the aims, the Society cooperates with various partners which are concerned with the professional, vocational and cultural questions of literature and carries out numerosu activities, such as: publishing of literary, cultural and professional publications, organisation  of literary, professional and scientific gatherings, etc.
