Igor Koruga
Igor Koruga works as an independent artist in the field of performing arts (contemporary dance and choreography). He graduated with a master's degree in ethnology and anthropology from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, as well as from the Department of Solo / Dance / Authorship at the University of Arts in Berlin. At the moment he is finishing a DAS Third research program in DAS Graduate scholl at the University of Arts in Amsterdam.
Koruga is a member of the Station Service for Contemporary Dance and the Association of Ballet Artists of Serbia (UBUS).
Koruga applies choreography as a tool for the interpretation of socio-political phenomena, which condition artistic production and knowledge distribution. He is the author of several works: Closeness of Touch (2022); One, two, three, comrade, come dance with me (2021), Hopelessness (2017), Only Mine Alone (2016), etc.
Koruga works as a an associate for stage movement in theatre plays and film, and as a dramaturge in the field of dance. As a performer, Koruga has collaborated with various theaters in Europe (Dansens Hus, Stockholm; Weld Stockholm; Museum Quartier Vienna; Hubbel am Ufer HAU Berlin, Kammerspiele Munich etc.).
As an assistant professor in the field of choreography, he taught at the Institute for Artistic Dance in Belgrade (2015-2017). He has mentored many artists of the younger generation of the local dance scene through various educational platforms (Puzzle, Station Service for Contemporary Dance; Dance Survivors, by Goethe Institute Belgrade; You Perform, by Yugoslav Drama Theatre Belgrade / Talia Theater Hamburg);
Koruga is a member of the team for archiving the performing arts practices of the independent cultural and artistic scene in the region (Nomad dance Academy) since 2015. As an author of theoretical texts and research, he has published papers in prominent regional journals in the field of performing arts theory (Maska Ljubljana, Walking theory Belgrade, Movements Zagreb, etc.).
So far he has been a scholarship holder by: Akademie Schloss Solitude Stuttgart (2019-2021); Theater Theater International Forum, Berlin Festival (2020); Tanzstipendium of the Mayor of Berlin (2013); DanceWEB (2009); Nomad Dance Academy (2009); He won the first prize and the Critics' Award at the Festival of Choreographic Miniatures (2015), the award for the most original research of one of the segments of theatrical language at the 43rd Infant Festival (2016), and the annual award of the National Organization for Rare Diseases of Serbia (NORBS). suffering from rare diseases in Serbia through artistic work (2015).
