Helena Klakočar is an academic painter and comic author. She works in the wider field of visual arts and deals with installation, illustration, graphic design, animation, and is known for her autobiographical, social and political observations. From her application form and work plan, we highlight:
"Given that I am in the 'third age', I want to cover this topic through illustrations and comic stories. I see "on my skin" that our everyday life is full of tragicomic situations. Along with the personal stories of senior citizens, I would draw a map of how to move around the city if you are in a wheelchair or have reduced mobility. A map of the city with public toilets for those with a weaker bladder seems to be useful for the "new" local elderly and for guests of the city. I want my work to be witty and fun for the elderly and the young. At the same time, to talk about the perspective of an older user of the "city", about that perspective, which young people cannot even imagine, but what will one day become a part of their life experience. Why Rijeka? Rijeka is completely unknown to me, I have only been to Rijeka twice for a couple of days, but I never found my way around town on my own (I was always guided by the organizers). It seems to me a good starting position to discover the city."
