  Hana Miletić was born in Zagreb in 1982. She lives and works in Brussels and Zagreb.

  Miletić studied art history and archaeology (Vrije Universiteit Brussels, 2005), gender studies (Universiteit Utrecht, 2004) and photography at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (2006), and completed her graduate study in photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2009.

  She has presented her work at exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. In 2021, she had a large solo exhibition in Bergen Kunsthall, as well as the exhibition The Approach in London. In 2018, her first larger institutional exhibition (at WIELS Contemporary Art Centre) was presented in Brussels. Miletić also exhibited her work at solo shows in Pristina, Amsterdam, Ghent, Antwerp, etc., and participated in group exhibitions in different institutions and galleries and as part of biennial exhibitions such as 13th Sharjah Biennial (2017), S.M.A.K., Ghent (2018-2019), Metro Pictures, New York (2019), Art Encounter Biennale Timisoara (2021), 58th  Belgrade October Salon (2021), M Museum Leuven (2021), Stzuki Lodz Museum (2020), 3rd IAB Biennale of Industrial Art - Labin and Raša, (2020).

  She won the BOZAR Award for Young Artists, the Young Belgian Art Prize (2015), and the Baloise Art Prize (Art Basel), which included the purchase of her works for the MUDAM Museum in Luxemburg.

• Repairs, patches, redesigns

  As part of her artist residency organized by the MMSU, Hana Miletić explores the history and legacy of the industrial and textile production in Rijeka, with the aim of creating three large-format textile installations. These will be shown on a solo exhibition which is going to take place at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka in 2022. Being site- and context-specific, Miletić’s new works reflect on the history of manufacturing in Rijeka’s rope factory, the repair shop in the Hartera paper mill and the tobacco factory, which now houses the building of the MMSU, but they also record the situation of today's textile industry (“Riječka industrija odjeće” – RIO). Her textile installations evoke a wide range of ideas and connotations, from the photographic reproduction of a scene and its translation, to the concepts of weaving, palpability and fragility of a material, to the female manual labor and women's effort in industrial production.

  Miletić is spending part of her time in Rijeka walking around the city, collecting vistas and forms for her exhibition – with her camera she captures the repairs and transformations in public space, which she would later reproduce in weaving. The artist is thus aesthetically and formally shaping her installations, which would also reflect on the economic and political context, carrying out the first phase of her works for the exhibition.

  MMSU in Rijeka founded in 1948, in its long tradition offers a committed support to innovative ways of approaching, producing and presenting art. From its very beginning the Museum has been building reputation of one of the most prominent visual art institutions in Croatia, entrusted with presentation of Croatian artists at prestigious international art events such as: Venice Biennial 1962, 1997, 2007, 2010, Sao Paolo Biennial 1967, 2004 etc. 

  The Museum rounds its programming around visual art education, parallel to different modes of exhibition concepts that address new discursive possibilities and transform it into a place of inspiration, idea exchange and active participation. Under the motto openness, creativity & engagement, together with artistic, cultural and community organizations, Museum furthers visual arts research, collaboration and exchange within the region and internationally, while aspiring to reach increasingly diverse audiences and to work in a close relationship with the community.

  Museum’s collection offers a diverse range of artistic visions with over 8,000 artworks dated from the end of the 19^th century to the present day. From 2017 Museum is located at new address, Krešimirova 26c, in ex-industrial complex Rikard Benčić. Since then, some important exhibitions were organized at MMSU in the framework of the pre-program and program of Rijeka 2020 - European Capital of Culture, i.e. Tomislav Gotovac: Crisis Anticipator - Don't Ask Where We're Going (2017), Vlado Martek: Exhibition with Many Titles and Goran Petercol: Don't Worry About Poetics, They Will Arrive on Their Own in 2019 and David Maljković: With the Collection in 2020..
