Ana Pečar (1977) is a video and intermedia artist. She takes an active part as an organizer of public events, through which she communicates artistic and collective currents. Pecar gained her formal education at University of Maribor and Corcoran School of Art (Washington, US) and achieved additional skills on numerous workshops and residencies. She is interested to penetrate beyond engineered reality. Her work suggests the trajectory of humanity not as a continuous advancement, but as an endless return to a base nature. Pečar is currently devoted in research of her own legacy that remained up until twentieth century in remote parts of Slovenia through oral tradition. This way she tries to relativize the unconditional system of values of contemporary globalism.

The project suggests the trajectory of humanity not as a continuous advancement, but as an endless return to a base nature. Civilization, occupied with establishing its own safety, neglected its primitive instincts and that is now the largest source of unhappiness. Audio visual installation uses time as the vehicle from which to analyze the dubiousness of humanity’s achievements.

Ana Pečar had previously examined the subject of time through a water flow ("A score for three waters", Kibla Maribor 2008, ESC Gallery Graz 2007, Art Gallery Maribor 2009, Streaming festival Hague 2009, Cronosfera Cavatore 2012). A river is 'par excellence' metaphor of time. The name of the town Rijeka literally means 'a river' and derives from Rječina water flow. Rijeka, once driven by industry, has met a point of introspection and transformation of its precious ecological resource poorly treated throughout history. The belief in an overarching human narrative destined for a promised goal has now been understood as a fallacy.

The three channel video installation, created by Pečar will start at built-up ex-industrial environments and follow the Rječina river along its old banks all the way to its spring. The video will play simultaneously backwards and forwards across the three screens, undermining attempts to read logic into the evidence of human influence on the landscape.

Association for Culture and Education Kibla - ACE KIBLA is the first presentation and production institution in Slovenia dealing with multimedia and intermedia art and a yearlong cultural programme. KIBLA still incorporates pure classical (»excluded«) media but in a different context-we use them to support historical continuity of visual art and a bigger aesthetization and integration of electronic media. We support principles that lead to complex systems of multimedia presentation. We also produce respectively coproduce cultural artistic projects and publish presentation materials.
