Alessandra Pomarico

Alessandra Pomarico (IT/US) is a curator at the intersection of arts, pedagogy, social issues, the poetics of relationship, and community building. Her recent context-based, long term initiatives include: Free Home University (2013 - ongoing), an artistic and pedagogical experiment focused on how we share and create knowledge by experiencing life in common; The Common Orchard for Minor Fruits (2014 - ongoing), a generative rural and social project in collaboration with organic farmers and activists; Ammirato Culture House (2012 - ongoing) a hub for social practices and a community center, and Sound Res (2004 - 2012), residency program, festival and summer school for new music.
Pomarico (PhD) is also a journalist, has published and lectured widely and is currently a member of the editorial team for Arts Everywhere for which she curates the section Pedagogy, otherwise. She lives between New York and Italy.

Alessandra will work on a compilation of texts reflecting on the experience and the knowledge emerged during Free Home University, artistic and pedagogical initiative devoted to creating learning communities, that she co-founded and in which she has been participating since 2013. The book will be organized as an Abcedaire, through a playful, subvertive and collective excercise exploring the poetic possibilies of short, dictactic entries, challenging the universal pretence of manuals and text books. 
While in residency at Kamov, Alessandra will connect with local cultural practitioners and artists interested in regenerating public space and communities, politics of care, activism and strategies of solidarity.

Musagetes Foundation and the City of Rijeka started their co-operation in 2009, when an international gathering of artists, cultural operators and intellectuals was organised in order to discuss relevant social and cultural issues within the programme "Rijeka Café". The foundation decided to redefine and widen the "Café" programme, by translating it into Rijeka Artist Placement Programme and bringing to Rijeka two artists, Laetitia Sonami and Matthew Mazzotta for two months. The two artists, during their two-month stay in Rijeka worked on their respective, individual projects. The projects are conceptual and manifested as participating public interventions aimed at critical considerations and opening up the surroundings in which we live. These types of socially engaged artistic practices intend to provoke dialogue about the subjects such as ecology, public participation, art aesthetics and science.
