  Alen Bešić was born in 1975 in Bihać (Bosnia) and he obtained his bachelor's and master's degree from the Department of Serbian Language and Literature, Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. He has published two books of poetry and books of selected literary criticism and essays, Reading labyrinths (2006) and Unreliable form (2012). He is engaged in literary criticism, essays and is also translating from English. For his work as a translator he was, in 2010, awarded by the Writers' Association of Vojvodina. He is a member of the Serbian Literary Society and the Association of Literary Translators of Serbia. Since 2007 he has worked as the editor of Literary theory in magazine Polja, a magazine that collaborates with numerous authors from the region. His versatile engagement in the field of literature, and  for encouraging cooperation by different generations from different countries has been the main reason for him being proposed for the Award of  16th International meeting publishers Journey to the Centre of Europe in Pazin.

• Journey to the centre of Europe award

  During his stay in Rijeka, the author will participate in the presentations of collection of poems Golo srce/Naked heart, published in June 2012, at the Ribook bookstore in Rijeka and in the House for writers in Pazin. As an award-winning author, he will also participate in the literary evening of the 17th International publishers meeting Journey to the center of Europe. On that occasion, other awarded autors and translators will also be presented. In addition to this he will be working on two projects - a new manuscript of his new collection of poetry and translation of a book of stories by  Annie Proulx entitled Close range.

  Alen Bešić is a guest of Kamov residency programme, as a winning author of the16th International meeting of publishers Journey to the Centre of Europe in Pazin in  2012.

• Open peoples college Pazin

  Open peoples college is a public institution for education and culture, established in 1960. It has two branches – Memorial Home and Elementary school for music that in 2011. celebrated its 40th anniversary. Memorial Home is a multifunctional establishment – a centre of cultural and social life of the city – with the City library, Reading room, exhibition spaces, concert and movie halls, coffee shops, disco and other various contents. Basic activities of the College are performance arts, exhibitions, publishing, education of adults and elementary music education. International publisher's meeting "Trip to the centre of Europe" is held annually in Pazin. Organizer of this event is Open people's college, and the main goal is stimulation and promotion of publishing and of authors.
